Descent to valley (to 1500 m)

At least you can still get down into the valley on shady forest paths. Further up, it is also quite easy to ride on good-natured ground (meadow) (north side). On the south side, it's snowy right up to the top. More snow is urgently needed, currently the tour options in the Schmirntal are very limited and in the lower part only possible on forest trails.

Snow quality

Hard, pressed snow
Powder snow

Very hard, icy snow on the forest path in the lowest part. Above 1900m it slowly improves and the rain crust becomes thinner and thinner. Above approx. 2100m there is no more crust to be felt, the entire snow cover consists of gritty, powdery snow. Good to ride with sufficient speed and a wide board :-)

Risks

West

Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)

Below 2400m it was a 1 according to the LWD. Due to the old snow problem, we only went up to just under 2300m, up to there it was definitely relaxed. However, the entire snow cover has been transformed and you can sink right down to the ground. Therefore, at least in the altitude range below 2300m, there is hardly any danger of slab avalanches at the moment, but an unfavorable basis for the next snowfall. Of course, you have to watch out for stones and stream beds in the low snow conditions.

Better
