Description
A new season is just around the corner, and that means new excitement and action! The FWT 2025 is going one better. With a revised cut format that brings an additional event to the program, a bold redesign of the FWT Challenger Series and a completely new destination on the map, this season will be more exciting than ever. Let yourself be surprised and inspired by everything that awaits you.
New format for "The Cut"
In the 2025 season, the FIS Freeride World Tour is bringing a breath of fresh air with a new structure for "The Cut". Riders will now have five events to achieve their three best results and qualify for the grand final. Compared to the previous season, where only four stops counted towards qualification, this additional event gives riders more opportunities to showcase their skills. The sixth and final stop, the YETI Xtreme Verbier by Honda, promises a spectacular finale where only the best will be on the big stage. This change allows for more dramatic performances as riders can push themselves to their limits without the pressure of constant consistency.
In addition, access to the grand final in Verbier will be made easier: around 60% of riders who start in Baqueira Beret Pro will now qualify, compared to 50% in previous years. This adjustment is in response to feedback that the previous cut was too tough and eliminated talented riders too early. The penultimate stop, the Fieberbrunn Pro, will be crucial as the final qualifying event and will bring extra intensity and strategy into play to secure a place in Verbier.
The Terrain in Val Thorens
The Val Thorens Pro takes place on the Cime Caron, which rises to 3,195 metres. Riders begin their descent at 3,105 metres and race down to 2,575 metres, covering an impressive 530 metres in altitude. The steep face offers steep lines with an average gradient of 32 degrees, which makes for fast and technical skiing. With ridge lines, couloirs and sweeping sections, Val Thorens promises to push athletes to their limits on this exciting new addition to the FWT.
