The first flakes have already fallen in Engelberg, but it still takes a while before you can think about skiing.

On 25.10 the conditions were still quite good on the steep north side above 3000m with a small layer of powder. Unfortunately, this changed due to the rain and the warm temperatures on October 26th. Unfortunately, an ice crust has formed up to the very top at 3400m, which is no longer soft on the north side, so we chose to ski down via a south-west facing glacier which was nice and soft at midday. The ski touring possibilities are generally very limited and you have to be prepared to carry your skis/splitboard until you are in the snow if you don't want to do piste tours. The pictures are from 25.10 & 27.10.

Made the most of the amazingly good weather and fine snow for another lift-assisted ski tour. Found some good turns and made the first summit of the season. Unfortunately, the forecast for the coming week(s) is not so great :/

Beautiful day on the Stubai Glacier. The conditions on the slopes were surprisingly good at the beginning (no ice slides as is usually the case at this time of year), then we made a few good powder turns with the help of our own muscle power.

It's cool to be able to go on a ski tour at home in September. The less than ideal conditions are almost a minor matter. It's a shame that fall is still to come. I could already start, the basis would already be laid from the middle altitudes.

Was quite ok. Very little snow at the bottom - but rapidly increasing snow depth. Few competitors.

Once again up one of the mountains behind the Zufallhütte. Departure hut 6.30, after 1 hour carrying then skis on the feet. Another good tour. Glacier well snowed in.

In the French part of the Alps, skiing is still the method of choice. Conditions are still deep winter, tours to the major peaks are no problem. As long as temperatures and the snow line stay like this, not much will change. The biggest challenge at the moment is to find a suitable weather window...

Typical spring tour with a long stretch on skis until you can finally switch to skins at 2200m. The glaciers were snowed in better than ever, no crevasses visible. Getting up early was rewarded with a bit of powder on a compact base, very easy to ski.

Good tour today even without a glacier, a classic in Sellrain. About 15 hikers along the way. Last section over a ski slope, which contributed to the short distance. Beware, still wet snow slides from steep terrain - the renewed snowfall always ensures a supply.

Hello, Here's my first CR from beautiful France. Two buddies from the PG team said that a few CRs from the Western Alps would be cool. Here they are (a bit late, it was a great season with lots of deep powder days, so I could have reported a lot...). Grand Casse: Actually, the plan was to spend the night at the Refuge du Col de Vanoise from Saturday to Sunday. It is manned every Saturday in May. On all other days it remains open and is a winter shelter with a gas stove, wood and blankets. Water must be melted. Unfortunately, it was fully booked for Saturday. We therefore drove from Grenoble to Pralognan in the evening and climbed up to the hut on Friday evening in rain and snowfall. Between 25-35cm of fresh snow at altitude. On Saturday, the snow had opened up and was much heavier than expected. We started at the hut at 4:50 a.m. As I didn't want to do all the tracks alone, I waited half an hour for the Tyrolean mountain guide. That's why we didn't reach the summit until around 9:20. But it was colder than forecast, so it was better anyway. From the summit you could see a group climbing up the north face: Looked like quite a scramble and at 9:30 they were still in the lower quarter. I think they broke it off then, anything else would have been too late with daytime warming. There was also too much fresh snow for a descent or ascent of the north face. It looked perfect and would certainly have been a lot of fun, but there was another mountain guide from Tyrol on a private tour who said there was too much fresh snow. We then went down the west side in 30cm of powder on a top base. The west side is also nice and steep, but a bit shorter. Well, now I have a reason to go there again for the north face ;). Colouir Italienne was probably done last week, but there is a length of ice that you have to belay. You can also do the tour in one day from the valley. Great view of Mont Blanc from the summit and generally beautiful corner with the Vanoise National Park. Snow line: approx. 2300m, but still plenty of snow. Ultra much at this altitude. Last week I was in the Bernese Oberland and went from the Lötschental in the west down to Recklingen via all kinds of peaks and huts (Hollandia, Konkordia, Finsteraarhorn) in the east via the Bächlilücke in 4 days: There is still a lot of snow in the Western Alps and the season will last a long time. It's currently raining or snowing again in Grenoble, so there will be some more snow at altitude.

Solo day mission in a lonely corner in the Venediger group with a long, snow-free approach/ride. But there is still quite a bit of snow in the high altitudes, it looks incredibly beautiful. :) You can find both good and rather modest snow quality. The next few days should be similar, from the middle of next week a change in the weather is forecast with some snowfall in the high altitudes.

The remains of the Ruderhofspitze north face in the best powder and then beautiful slopes up to the Neue Regensburger Hütte. Descent then possible on the northern slopes up to almost 2000m. I recommend taking the Ebike/MTB to the Falbesoner Ochsenalm, a very long tour with 2300m.

Outstandingly good conditions for mid-May! Powder at the very top on the snow side. Great firn descents possible with good timing. Depending on the tour, long carrying passages or descents on the pistes down to the valley are possible.

A few meters of powder on steep north-facing slopes at the top, best firn at the bottom. In between, broken snow and icy. But you can easily avoid it by switching to sunnier slopes. Very rewarding conditions at the moment, even for steep north-facing descents. Blank ice can only be seen in vain on snow-covered seracs and slopes.

Beautiful tour with great visibility and a good descent. Frozen through in the morning today, start at 7.30 was a bit late. Beautiful summit, great conditions for May. May the next winter also be a good one for all powder riders and let's look forward to the 23/24 season coming to a SLOW end, injury-free and hopefully with great experiences.

Due to the weather forecast for the next few days and the snowstorm that started during the night from April 30 to May 1, we decided to cancel our week of ski touring in Valais and descended this morning from the Britannia Hut via Egginer Joch to Saas Fee. Despite the adverse conditions (partly white out and storm above approx. 2800m), the descent was mostly enjoyable: above 2500 dry fresh snow on the slopes of the already closed ski area, further down increasingly "greasy" and nice to ski wet snow down to the outskirts of Saas Fee.
