Snow report Salzburger Land North, 01/05/2019

Snow condition

It snowed the whole time, with increasing intensity towards midday. By 1 p.m. there was a good 20 cm of fresh snow on the car. The sinking depths were good today and there was nothing left of yesterday's tracks. After the ongoing snowfall, we've given it 4 stars.

Snow quality

No longer as extremely fluffy as yesterday but still outstanding. Whining at the highest level. Enough for 5 stars today too.

Much trickier than yesterday. The fresh snow is falling at slightly higher temperatures (more compact) and doesn't always combine well with the cold fresh snow from yesterday. There are also wind tracks at the edge of the forest today. The whole combination is not ideal for off-piste activities. I would strongly advise against steeper sections, straight gullies and streams. The amount of sluff was not without its problems today either. As the most intense precipitation didn't start until around midday and is expected to last until tomorrow, we won't be doing any off-piste activities tomorrow due to all the unfavorable parameters. Staying at home is certainly not the worst option for tomorrow.

Overall impression

Today was very good, but not quite as good as yesterday. The snow was just a bit fluffier yesterday and the avalanche situation allowed a bit more yesterday.
