Snow condition

excellent! easy descent down the valley on the ski slope. from the hut (2,300m) approx. 2m of snow. free choice of routes almost everywhere, possible without restrictions.

Snow quality

2 von 5 Sterne

wind, wind, wind, from all directions up to hurricane force and yesterday a foehn storm. there's a cap in all expos that significantly reduces the fun of riding. sometimes stable, often brittle. but in the s-expos it should soften quickly now and then there will be excellent spring conditions.

Risks

until saturday (16.03.) level 4 (see also picture 8 and 10). from 15.-17.03. there was about 1.5m of fresh snow above the hut. wind from all directions, hurricane force. the avalanche situation was extremely tense, as the freshly transported snow did not bond very well with the old snow cover. we have carried out various load tests in different expos and altitudes and can confirm this. in n-expos, a few snowboards certainly did not come off. in n-expos there were certainly still a few slabs of snow that didn't come off. while the valley run was closed, some of the (presumably blasted) large avalanches came off across the ski slope and into the opposite slope. with the forecast of good weather from the middle of the week, the conditions are sure to be very good in spring.

Overall impression

3 von 5 Sterne

above-average snow conditions, with thick deposits of drifting snow. snow surface covered in all expos. perfect spring touring conditions from the middle of next week. the hut is, as always, very well booked and highly recommended. ski tourers will find everything here, from heated boot dryers, to second helpings at dinner (very good quality!), to free march tea and profiant, at the breakfast buffet.
