Snow condition
The snowfall on the weekend (certainly 40cm, as described yesterday) has really done us good and when it settles, it will be really good.
Snow quality
The fresh snow is very loose, even where there was a bit of wind. With good visibility today, it was even possible, with a little ascent, to find areas where you could no longer feel the hard ground. If it gets a little warmer in the next few days and the snow gets a little heavier, then it will probably be even better. Despite wide skis, it's not always easy to generate enough lift at the moment (maybe it's also down to a lack of technique...)
Risks
Especially in the morning there were strong winds and some drifting. A small board came loose due to a skier, otherwise there was a lot of drifting. The low temperatures have preserved the powder so far.
Overall impression
Lucky if you can make the most of the sun and fresh snow on a Monday.
Apart from the fact that it was freezing cold (-13°C) and very windy at times, a day like this is of course worth its weight in gold.
Because of the wind and the cold, I didn't even put on my skins as I would have frozen my hands. But there was also a good trudging track. So no problem. The wind also hurt my face so much that I had to wrap myself up several times. But by the second time, the wind had died down and it was pleasant.
An amazing number of freeriders were out and about. Why don't they all have to work or go to university?"
For something untracked you have to keep hiking, but you'll find something for a few more days.
