Snow condition
Currently sufficient for tours at altitude. Like last year in May. Watch out on the glaciers. A fresh hole right next to my track, scary... Even in the big caves, spots that peter out early will soon become carrying spots. The fresh snow of the past few days hasn't changed anything. 15 to 20cm have come down.
Snow quality
Spring conditions but good for April. On the sunny side, of course, very soft early on, but for now only the fresh snow layer and still dry underneath. Hidden powder on the north side >3000, also very nice. Otherwise settled and slightly damp powder but still nice to ski. No rotten snow at lower altitudes where we were on the way. That surprised me. But good thanks to the clear skies and low humidity and partly starry night at high altitudes.
Risks
Wet slide on the sunny side, even at great heights. But kept within limits. On the north side, a few small chutes fell off like boards, but no spillage. This can be very different every day depending on the weather. Quite good conditions for us.
Overall impression
Great day with lots of sun, great visibility and good snow in places. More of the same! Let's hope for many clear nights!
