Snow report Ammer Mountains, 02/18/2014
Skitour in den Ammergauer Alpen am 19.2.14 (nord, 900m – 1700m)
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
The amount of snow in the Ammergau mountains is very low and there is hardly any snow in the valleys, especially in the forest. Tonight and during the day about 20-30cm fell at an altitude of 1700m while it unfortunately rained in the valley. The snow line was around 1100m during the day. Nevertheless, it was still very warm at altitude and the snow was rather damp.
Snow quality
The snow quality on the ski tour was less good. But that was simply due to the high temperatures and the rain at lower altitudes. The higher you got and the less wet the snow was, the more fun the descent was.
Risks
The avalanche situation was less worrying. The only thing to watch out for here is wet snow slides, especially due to the warming.
Overall impression
No guarantee, but I think that ski tours with a northern exposure and a relatively high starting point can be undertaken again.
