Snow condition
In northern Pinzgau, as in Berchtesgaden, there is very little snow at lower altitudes. Forests below approx. 1100-1000m are hardly skiable. The middle altitudes are good. In the Steinberge, however, caution is also advised further up, sometimes there is only a little over it and there were a few cuts for everyone...
Snow quality
Mostly really good! In shady, wind-calmed areas about 25cm of cold, fluffy powder, but sometimes hard avalanche bumps in between and the hard old snow cover becomes noticeable towards the bottom. Unfortunately it's a bit slow down into the valley in the afternoon.
Risks
Hardly critical. The layer of old snow is extremely compact and the powder is mostly completely unbound, and the small amounts of snow are hardly a danger at the moment. Despite the sunshine, there was also little movement on the south faces.
Overall impression
Very long and strenuous tour in a magnificent setting with some really good snow and countless great downhill options.
Relatively busy, but due to the size of the area everything runs very smoothly.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the week...
