Snow condition
From the parking lot at ~1500m you have no stone contact. The mountain pines are as good as closed and even in the forest you can do something after the next snowfall. Directly at the Kalkkögeln above 2000m, the snow cover increases considerably. Below the parking lot, however, it quickly becomes very thin.
Snow quality
Set powder at the top with less wind influence than expected. A little rough further down, but still good to ski. On the whole, a lot better than expected after a foehn week following the last snowfall.
Risks
A mottled descent directly on the meadow on the south-east face of the Widdersberg (see photo). Presumably, a sliding snow mouth has already discharged(?). Otherwise drift snow in the northern gullies. Nevertheless, everything looked relatively settled and stable.
Overall impression
I finally managed to answer the call of the onset of winter and spend the first day on the mountain. With somewhat low expectations due to the 3 windy days after the last snowfall, I was pleasantly surprised today. Although there were already a few people ahead of us in the Kalkkögeln, there were still some nice turns to be had on a relaxed morning tour. The snow conditions definitely put me in a good mood and made me want more.
