Snow condition
I'll give it a second star, but overall the base is simply extremely poor. In the forest and steep terrain you can still often get through, in the alpine pastures you can still see pasture fences, and overall the snow conditions are very inhomogeneous. It is best in completely wind-protected hollows and depressions between 1400 and 1700m. Peaks and ridges are often completely free of snow.
Snow quality
The fresh snow is quite fine, just a little dull and rather slow. In general, however, you have to reckon with either the hard old snow cover or insufficiently covered obstacles everywhere. You can rarely really step on the gas. There are also swept passages, especially in the more exposed areas. In the early days, the south-facing slopes were still quite good, but later they were heavily sun-baked.
Risks
The situation report says a 2 below the tree line. I've seen a lot of drifted snow, but the snow is pretty much stress-free and is mostly well bonded to the old snow layer. However, there was a heavy storm from the W-NW in the higher elevations today, so it certainly looks different there. The overall impression today was quite stable, I also skied steeper terrain. A bit of sluff in steep gullies. Overall, the terrain is still very rough.
Overall impression
Yo, a good day for this winter.
It was relatively busy, but there was still a lot to be done. However, we needed a proper base as soon as possible! Bouncing is only possible to a very limited extent and carefully due to the hard old snow or other obstacles.
A subjective 4th star for me, because today I rode a nice variation that I've always wanted to ride.
Even if the approach through rock bands by hanging off thin reeps with thick gloves was only semi-optimal... ;)
