Skitour in den westlichen Tuxer Alpen

Snow condition
From the parking lot at about 1300 m there is enough snow to start on the forest road with skins. Further up below the tree line you can ski a lot. Not so much where the trees are a little closer together. Above the tree line, there is enough snow in hollows, gullies and all other sheltered areas to avoid encountering sharks. It's a different story near the ridge. In some places there is nothing at all. The south side looks poorer, towards the valley there is sometimes no snow at all.
Snow quality
On the descent, the top 50 m of the descent were completely fended off and mogul-hard. Then suddenly about 10 cm of powder that is easy to ski. Further down in the unprotected open field, everything is there: pressed powder, fine powder and completely hard.
Risks
In the gully we skied, we occasionally caused individual clods to come loose. However, these drift snow packs were extremely small and harmless. On the whole, a stable avalanche situation.
Overall impression
With no high expectations, we wanted to explore an unknown touring region today. Unfortunately, the 8 hours of sunshine forecast for this didn't materialize. But the snow was better than expected. Due to the many lines we skied today, the day scrapes the 4 stars.
One thing is for sure! Even if it doesn't snow for now, it's still worth starting tours. You might have to go a little longer and choose more creative routes, but there are still powder turns to be had!
