Snow report Andermatt / Gotthard, 01/14/2014

Snow condition
Basically well snowed in, but still below average compared to other years. The fresh snow creates a treacherous situation with regard to stones. You have to expect shark attacks in certain places. We all got hit several times today.
Snow quality
Perfect blower pow! Below 2000m it lies on a hard surface, which you can feel from time to time while riding. Above that, it was at its finest and hardly affected by the wind. The amount of fresh snow ranged from 15-40cm, depending on the altitude of course.
Risks
The 2nd section of the Gemststock lifts did not open until 10:00 a.m. due to blasting. Smaller, thin snow slabs could be observed from very steep, rarely used slopes. In general, the extremely rutted ground certainly contributed to stabilization. Away from the standard routes, I would assess the situation more critically.
Overall impression
What a day! Only the fact that you always have to share the Gemsstock with a lot of people during the week detracts from the experience. Nevertheless, thanks to an early start, we were able to record a few first lines. And of course, an extra meter of snow wouldn't hurt here either.
