Schaufelspitze Nord + Rinne am aperen Pfaffengrat
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Generally good snow conditions at the top of the glacier. Schaufelspitze Nord has enough snow, especially in the uppermost stony part. The gullies on the rough Pfaffengrat are also well filled, but not all the way up to the ridge.
Snow quality
Still powdery snow in the north and north-east exposures. Unfortunately, the snow cover is very wind-affected overall, and the sun and high temperatures were also not conducive to the snow quality.
Risks
According to the LLB, a 1 in the morning with an increase to a 2 during the day. Drift snow has settled well due to the sun and high temperatures. Bad for the snow quality, good for the avalanche situation. We skied a lot of steep stuff, there were no snow slabs to be seen. Wet snow avalanches from sunny slopes, but you should be very early on the sunny side, wet and sliding snow must be observed in any case.
Overall impression
Two beautiful, steep lines with relatively good snow quality in places.
Many people were skiing on the north shovel tip, lines were already in there from the day before and a few more were added today. Unfortunately, the gully on the rough Pfaffengrat was not continuous all the way up to the ridge. The line was still worthwhile. Also good training for steeper stuff.
