Snow report Salzburger Land North, 02/27/2019
Kühles Nordkar in der Hitze

Overall impression
Snow condition
On the south side it's already quite massive, but on the shaded side everything is good down into the valley, in any terrain.
Snow quality
High altitudes: slab powder and pressed drift snow. Quite nice to ski, even if there are always small, hard passages and ice bumps in between. (3*)Open areas in mid-altitudes: Very hard and unfortunately it hadn't turned to firn even on the descent at 3 a.m. At the bottom on the shaded side: Broken snow, ice pack and slow felt, slightly better in the forest.
Risks
Today I was at the Salzburg LLB, which saw a 1 at the bottom and a 2 at the top. However, in my opinion, it didn't turn into a 2 on the north side, even later in the day - it all remained hard, compact and crumbly, but it looks different in the sun, of course, and the drift snow is clearly visible at higher altitudes, but often already pressed and wind-treated.
Overall impression
I opted for a shady north cirque today - out of concern about the heat.
The snow was okay at the top, but unfortunately it didn't open up in the shade later in the afternoon. So I couldn't fully enjoy the great terrain with the mini-pillowland.
It was also surprisingly frosty with a cool wind, especially compared to the heat in the sunny valley.
