POST FÖHN STURM RIDE ENGELBERG
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
HUI. If you look at the comparison pictures from last Friday, it looks pretty poor today after the foehn Saturday. There's no more snow on the valley run, nor in the village of Engelberg. The foliage looks like it's been swept away. It's unbelievable that people were still shredding down there on Friday. There's a foehn wind at the top, which is why I can only assess the snow conditions from 2000 to 2700m.
Snow quality
The lower meters from 2000 to 2200 are slightly slushy. The top is hard and twisted. There is enough snow to stay out of the way (we are free and riders after all), but you should be prepared for a lot of bumps and, if you are unlucky or careless, stones. There is a light dusting of powdered sugar in hollows ;)
Risks
Officially, the SLF predicts a 2. We observe no slide, no sliding snow cracks or fresh cracks, but we ski over old avalanche cones that have been blown over. Overall, the situation is very stable compared to last week. Rising temperatures, even at altitude, have solidified the snow surface considerably.
Overall impression
Yolo shred in November as is normal for the time of year. It's always amazing how quickly the hairdryer "dries" everything out. If you don't have a stable powerhouse in the early season, you're in for a real back-breaker. Humpy. Being strong at the start of the season would have been worth it for today. Otherwise, we're always having fun between the slopes, practising French fries-pizza-gun turns, downhill hairpin bends and opening our hips in yoga-yolo style with jump-as-fucked-up-as-you-can. Great day!
