Snow report Upper Bavaria, 02/13/2015
Skitour in den Bayerischen Voralpen (Tegernseer Berge)
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Still enough snow to carry out tours without any problems (start at approx. 800 m). However, some of the steeper southern exposures are already starting to thin out. With the current high temperatures, the snow situation will deteriorate significantly over the next few days. Tours with a large proportion of meadow terrain are certainly an advantage for the current tour planning.
Snow quality
Crampons were an advantage on the ascent (south/southwest). In the upper part of the descent, it snowed up as hoped. In the lower part of the descent (forest), almost everything was snowy. Unfortunately, not nearly as good as at the top.
Risks
Quite relaxed on the entire tour. We were out early and therefore had no problems with the snowpack losing strength due to the sunshine and mild temperatures. A few small wet snow avalanches had already fallen from very steep eastern slopes.
Overall impression
Weathery day and virtually no touring on the mountain. Firn and wonderful weather, but spring can wait a little longer!
