Snow report Salzburger Land Süd, 05/25/2016
Lange und einsame Tour in der Hafner Gruppe
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Last week I was only a few meters further south in the Maltatal and it looked much better there, despite the same exposure and altitude. There was also the very long ascent. It starts at about 2000m, but on other tours nearby it's a lot more favorable, but even at the top it's getting thin here... In total, however, about 1000m descent.
Snow quality
The fresh snow from the day before yesterday was unfortunately already very caked, but not yet really firny and therefore very slow in places. It was best above 2700m, there were a few really good turns in the flanks and deep slush at the bottom...
Risks
Relatively predictable, typical for spring, but the steep slopes are a bit more loaded again. Some large spontaneous wet and loose snow slides have occurred.
Overall impression
Unfortunately not as excellent as last week, we should have been out and about yesterday. Ass-long approach and unfortunately only mediocre snow vs. impressive mountain scenery in complete solitude, with numerous great animal sightings.
