Snow condition
Damüls is known as an old snow hole, so our decision was made after studying the map. Supposedly there was the most snow. But probably also the most wind. Everything from blown-off turf to knee-deep snow. However, as the snow is very light, you actually have a scratch somewhere on almost every turn. Fortunately, I only had the old skis with me. And I won't be using the new skis for the next few days either.
Snow quality
The verdict here is relatively simple: awesome awesome awesome... In some places. In other places it was actually just good. In the places protected from the wind, the snow is literally in the air because it's so light and dusty. No matter where we went today, it was always quite easy to ride.
Risks
That is the difficult question, because there is so little snow here that there is actually no danger? That's what most people thought in the morning. My defensive attitude certainly made sense today. I kept noticing cracks while I was driving. Even on very flat terrain of less than 30 degrees. I could also hear a distinct whining noise. These also occurred on very flat terrain. As one might ask oneself in the first few minutes "Is there enough snow here?", a short time later one has to realize that considerable amounts have already accumulated in some hollows. The amounts of 30-50 cm outlined in the LLB are possible. However, it is not a uniform snow cover.
Overall impression
So what to do over the next few days? The Christmas vacation crowds are still out and about, the snow is still missing. As visibility was pretty poor today, most people didn't venture out into the terrain. So there could still be enough to get tomorrow. You have to be early, then you can certainly still get something.
