Overall impression
Snow condition
It was still very poor until yesterday. But overnight we were surprised by 50-60 cm of fresh snow from the south. And that from the summit to the valley. Without wind. Of course, there's still some base missing...
Snow quality
No wind. Powder at its finest. Hip deep. Below 1400m the snow became much heavier.
Risks
The SLF was apparently also surprised by the fresh snow. So the bulletin for today in the Jungfrau region was only moderate and only in the N exposures above 2000m. But I heard booming noises all day. But all the snowfall (50-60cm) was in calm conditions. In this respect, it may be a bit of a nuisance, but the critical amount of fresh snow was probably still reached today.
Overall impression
What a change from fall to winter. Last Sunday was all about hike and fly, today you could really sink into the powder.
The new Eiger Express also transports people up the mountain even faster and there are no more waiting times. Advantage in Corona times.
Männlichen and First are still closed. Kleine Scheidegg is open all the time. The Schilthorn area has also started the season.
