Snow condition
With the fresh snow since Wednesday, there is once again a blanket of snow at the end of the season that allows starts from around 1000 meters on meadows. In the Black Forest peaks, another 20-30 cm was added. The snow fell all the way down to the valleys, but the warming was rapid today and you could feel it right up to the summits.
Snow quality
April powder in the Black Forest. Where there was still a base, like on the slopes at Baldenweger, it was possible to ski without any major risk of sharks. However, I was surprised how much snow had liquefied in a week. It doesn't hurt to keep an eye on what's underneath, larger stones can only just be covered by the fresh snow, and the soaking will probably reduce the fun factor considerably at the weekend, as a slight cap formation was already visible.
Risks
Holly Molly, not without danger today. The new snow has a poor bond to the old snow and the upper, light layer of harsh snow is extremely easy to trigger. There's also the danger of drift snow, which wasn't really recognizable, and I wouldn't trust the cornices as it looked last week, they could come down at any time.
Overall impression
Well, maybe Sunday, but that's the latest I'll end the Black Forest winter. Last Sunday I ruined my skins with the dear pine needles.
Unfortunately only the Black Forest as an alternative program to the PG season finale, but the work has to be done :(
