Snow condition
Unfortunately, there has been little change in the snow conditions as it has only snowed in the valleys from about 1000m upwards. In the East Tyrolean Hochpustertal/Villgratental there is more and more fresh snow as the altitude increases. At 1600m approx. 15 cm and at 2600 approx. 35cm. In Villgratental you can start from about 1600m, in Hochpustertal only from about 1800m.
Snow quality
The fresh snow, which increases with altitude, brought the first powder feeling to East Tyrol this year. Up to about 1900m there is a lid of frozen rain on the fresh snow cover, then the snow quality improves surprisingly quickly. Today we were able to ski a few meters of altitude in 25-40 cm of powder.
Risks
Unfortunately, the avalanche situation is very tense at the moment. We were also able to observe some self-triggering in steep terrain. These were mainly visible on east-facing slopes above 2000m. The 3 issued also advises cautious tour planning.
Overall impression
4 stars for the first powder feeling in East Tyrol, on a beautiful day with 25-40 cm of powder.
