Snow condition

Ski tour from Oberer Gletscher still possible. The last 100 vertical meters below the Chienmattenhubla are totally blown off or hard snow on the east side. While there was 1m of fresh snow in Lower Valais, we only had a few centimetres.

Snow quality

2 von 5 Sterne

Above 1800m 5-10cm of powder snow. Less and increasingly wet below that. Hardly any fresh snow below 1500m. Hard and icy at the very top, blown over.

Risks

The avalanche danger was low up to 2000m, or then only on very steep slopes with lots of drift snow deposits. The old snow has solidified because it was warm for a short time yesterday and it rained up high. I wasn't above 2000m today, so I can't judge exactly.

We didn't miss much in terms of snow today. Instead, I used the W wind (around 40 km/h at the summit) to kite and soar with the Speedflyer. It was a lot of fun and went well even in the current snow conditions. Occasionally, you had to avoid certain rough spots.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
