Snow condition
While it looks really bad in the valley, on some southern sides and on the swept slopes and ridges, the general situation is still good and in some sheltered areas at medium altitude there is still about 3-4m. (See picture with the chimney - that's the only thing that still looks out from the hut).
Snow quality
About 10-20 cm have been added since yesterday. Unfortunately, the old snow underneath is quite hard and often alternates between powdery and hard-packed passages.it was best and deepest in the windless, sheltered, shady larch forest.the snow got heavier quite quickly on the sunny side, but still good.
Risks
The higher elevations were certainly critical today, with heavy drifting on the peaks throughout the day, but relatively little in the middle and lower elevations. The old snow cover is compact and very hard and the fresh snow is completely unbound and fluffy, but despite the drop in temperature, the problem of sliding snow should not be forgotten.
Overall impression
Good afternoon with great weather. Unfortunately, there wasn't as much fresh snow as we had hoped for, and the wind was a bit of a nuisance. Of course, there was a lot of spurring, but overall the crowds were kept within limits.
In any case, there were a few nice lines and at the very end we had a nice, chance meeting with a forum member! :)
