The snow conditions in the Außerfern are really good. At the starting point at 1000 m there is about 1 m, the gullies and cirques are well filled and the snow conditions in the forest are also good, so that you can ski down very well without touching the ground. The snow conditions were also excellent in the Thaneller-Nordrinne, so that even the "key sections", which have to be climbed in some other winters, were easily skiable.

We were mainly on the north side - there we found a layer of 20 - 30 cm of the finest, super dry powder from top to bottom. Great to ski! It was only in the lower third that you could feel a bit of the old snow cover under the powder, but that didn't bother us too much. On the south side and everywhere where the sun has been a bit stronger in the last few days, you are more likely to find hard snow.

Risks

All in all, quite favorable. The old snow cover seemed well consolidated and there was hardly any drift snow to be seen in the area of our ascent and descent route. Only on the opposite, steep, west-facing grassy slopes could you see some (presumably already a few days old) snow slab edges.

Overall impression

4 von 5 Sterne

A fantastic day on the Thaneller with a great descent and super snow conditions, which made the icy cold ascent in the Nordkar more than worthwhile. Significantly better snow conditions than in previous years at the same time of year!

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
