Snow condition
The last südstau spilled over to the Gemsstock and there was a refreshment of about 30cm. Below approx. 1700m, the whole thing came down in liquid form. Descents are easily possible down to the valley and will be fine for a while yet.
Snow quality
Classic spring powder. Nice felty compact powder. Quite a bit of wind near the ridge. Powdery in the rocky valley up to about 1800m, although less and less... Then an immediate transition to hardpack, but good to ride.
Risks
Many spontaneous avalanches on the west side of the rocky valley, which reached considerable sizes. These probably occurred during the last snowfall. No slides seen in the busy terrain. In the transition area at approx. 2000-1900m in the rocky valley, a few slope slides. As Kartoffelstampfer already wrote. All the wet stuff is no longer frozen together. The fresh snow lies on this damp slush. Especially the eastern variants. Doesn't feel good. Felsental less wet and frozen.
Overall impression
Top morning on the Gemsstock. It was ok and the visibility was perfect until 2pm, then clouds came over from Ticino and then off home.
