Super Schnee am Tschachaun
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Very good, see last picture from the parking lot. The western slope towards Rüdiger(kopf) also had enough snow for a good descent, I suspect there is often too little snow there with the mountain pines.
Snow quality
Super powder in the shade, about 30-40 cm deep. Less fresh snow at the bottom. But it wasn't 5* powder either, there was a slight influence of the wind, and on the western slope it was also great on the northern side of the hilly terrain, on the southern side it was "easy" to ski on broken or wet snow.
Risks
We climbed the Tschachaun from the west. In the steep section before the summit, the ridge only had a few centimetres of snow, which could have been critical on the slope due to the amount of fresh snow and the cornicing. However, the normal route to the summit is currently quite feasible, and we triggered several surface slides on the western slope mentioned above, so caution is advised here in exposed terrain.
Overall impression
Super powder and beautiful descents :-) We got to the summit early, but by midday it was still quite busy. It was also really cold, today was the first time I had ever worn the Primaloft jacket for the entire ascent.
