Snow condition
There wasn't much below 1300m here before the snowfall either, so you can get through to the meadows here. Above that, very good snow conditions for the time of year, like last season at the end of February (if at all). On the sunny side, the classic variants down towards Saalbach are also very thin on the last 100m. But overall it's just good. With the last snowfall, we got just under 25cm. Sometimes more in the magic forest. A solid 3 stars.
Snow quality
It fell very cold and the current low winter temperatures are helping to preserve the good quality for even longer. You could feel the wind influence very little on the north side, but that's complaining at a very high level. On the sunny side, the whole day was still good, as the sun will remain this low for quite a while. After the day tomorrow, however, the south side will certainly have lost quality.
Risks
I can confirm the rather favorable conditions that the Llb described for the region. Watch out for drift snow, some of which was also present close to the ridge. But everything didn't seem too susceptible to problems. I also noticed a few snow mouths on very steep meadow slopes, including avalanches of sliding snow that had already left. These areas should be avoided. Sluff can also be a problem on steep slopes. Good touring conditions.
Overall impression
Start of the season and was for one. I actually expected a worse basis. All the variants are doable and we did our best to ski as much as possible today, but with a bit of effort there's still something to be gained tomorrow. From midday onwards we were almost alone in the area, with limited lift operation until 8.12, i.e. Lärchfilzkogelbahn and Streuboden are still closed. We were lucky today and were able to get up to the Lärchfilzkogel once due to technical problems with the yellow gondola. Already the 2nd four-star day - winter is going so well. It's all set!
