Snow report Arlberg, 03/11/2016

Snow condition
The amount of snow is sufficient for many known snow-side and sun-side variants in this area. But more would be desirable. Above the tree line, the wind has been working hard. Exposed areas are free in many places. Fortunately, temperatures are still very wintry at the moment.
Snow quality
Finer powder on the shaded side, which is partly shaped by the wind at high altitudes. Below 2,000 m, the snow becomes heavier in these exposures but has no cover. Below 1,400 m, however, it was too wet. Where the sun reaches, it has a skiable cover.
Risks
The LLB has now issued level 2 for this region. Ridge locations and blown-in areas (less traveled terrain) could still have danger spots. I have not been able to make any observations. The drift snow in the higher elevations seems to be well settled. Despite the cold temperatures, individual large base avalanches have already broken loose from extremely steep sunny slopes.
Overall impression
The possibilities and selection of lines in the freeride mecca of Arlberg are great cinema. Many off-piste skiers see it that way too. Unfortunately, the fog has severely limited our options today. If it stays cold for longer, a little fresh snow falls and the visibility is better, many good descents are still possible. http://www.lech-zuers.at/http://www.stuben-arlberg.at/
