Snow report Montafon, 04/18/2015

Snow condition

For the time of year, there is still just about average snow on the shady side. On the sunny side, it gets very thin very quickly below 2000 m.

Snow quality

3 von 5 Sterne

The snow is very fine. Above approx. 2500 there is approx. 20 cm of settled powder and up to approx. 2200 there is more than 5 cm. Everywhere it lies on a very hard and homogeneous base. At 2800 m it was well over 20 cm on the north side. Conditions were great until midday.

Risks

Very relaxed conditions in the morning and due to the cold temperatures it was mostly ok until the early afternoon. However, the time of day should be taken into account. Many steep descents were tackled today.

Overall impression

3 von 5 Sterne

It was a great spring day, which was rewarded with the odd powder turn. It's hard to say goodbye to winter. The sunny weather and clear nights could soon make beautiful firn runs possible.
