From the valley, of course, snow conditions are scarce (Hohenberg is 488m high, start was at approx. 520m). Ascent through the forest nevertheless possible, descent then via the forest road directly to the car. At the top on the alpine meadows good snow conditions with approx. 5cm of fresh snow.
Snow quality
Still loose, powdery snow on the shady side (garnished with fresh snow). Crust on the sunny side.
Risks
Not an issue on the tour. Despite the low altitude (just over 1200m), strong cornices form in the ridge area.
Overall impression
Deep winter conditions. Already pleasant in the sun, but still freezing cold in the shade. The Gschwendthütte hut, which is open at weekends, adds an extra touch of coziness to this short but pretty tour.
