Snow report Upper Black Forest, 03/29/2019

Snow condition

At over 1000 meters, the snow is still quite good, except on the southern slopes. If the Baldenweger Hüttenwirt doesn't clear the road black during the day, a start from Rinken still makes sense. From the Toten Mann it looks as if it is no longer worthwhile, as the whole hut meadow is green. There are still a few nice tours to do in the Upper Black Forest. Let's see how the weather develops next week, they could still be lucky on the Feldberg with a season until after Easter.

Snow quality

Beautiful spring snow in the meantime. I wasn't on the mountain until around 4pm today, but it wasn't boggy or completely soaked, which surprised me. By the time I got back around 7pm it was already freezing again.

The cornices on the Baldenweger are hanging suspiciously freely and could fall off at any time. Only the upper cm was soaked today (with the exception of the south-facing slopes).

Overall impression

Is it slowly coming to an end now or is there still something going on in the Black Forest? Let's see how it develops from the middle of next week, if it rains or there is no more snow there will be nothing worthwhile left after 1/2 week.
