Pigne d'Arolla
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Very poor snow conditions, barely skiable on the north side from 2000m, ridges extremely bare, all snowfalls of the season with lots of wind.
Snow quality
Crunchy or slushy on the north side up to 2500 m, above that still ok or very compacted at the summits. Only pleasant to ski in places sheltered from the wind, such as couloirs.
Risks
The little snow shifts the risk to glaciated zones. Even the crevasses near the summit of the Pigne are not all filled.LLB level 2. The old snow problem cannot be completely forgotten, but is no longer as serious.
Overall impression
The ascent through the Couloir des Toilettes to the Cabane des Vignettes with its 1000 m ascent was a highlight. Otherwise, the poor snow conditions clouded the picture. Some locals have already written off the season.
