Snow report Oberstdorf, 03/07/2017

Snow condition

Yesterday afternoon/evening, a few=maybe 10cm of snow fell/remained in the valley at 850m. Then rapidly increasing fresh snow depth at 1300m already almost 35-40 cm, then further increasing to about half a meter at 1800m. Sounds good, but it's already gone again up to medium altitudes. It's raining cats and dogs.

Snow quality

In contrast to yesterday, it was better today. No longer so compact, nice and creamy and rideable. From midday onwards, it was very wet up to at least 1200 m in a purely northerly exposure.

Here, too, there was a clear improvement in the situation compared to yesterday, although we triggered small drift snow deposits behind crests, these were small and locally very limited. On "large" slopes, the snow cover made a more reliable/stable impression than yesterday.

Overall impression

The day was good, but the joy is already over, it's pouring with rain and it's supposed to continue to do so tomorrow. As the valleys here are not at 1600m - if things go badly - it will be out of the valley or close to it by Friday. Once again a total destruction, as there is no base that can withstand a day of rain, as has been the case all winter.
