Snow condition
At 2400m, there is sometimes less than 50cm of snow on open areas. The mouths that open often show that the snow cover rarely breaks the magic meter. Today on the descent we met up with more sharks than in December. You can't ski down to the valley. Many of the exits that are normally possible should not even be attempted. You can ski well on a few forest trails, but rarely down into the valley.
Snow quality
It should be clear to everyone that there is no more powder on the south-facing slopes. The LLB refers to "In wind-calm, shady slopes or areas with shallow exposure, the uppermost layers are usually still soft and powdery." This can be confirmed. Those who know their way around will find good descents and untracked terrain even with little ascent. Today we had four first-class descents in very good snow. If you want to ski steep slopes, now is the time.
Risks
The snow profiles from Montafon on 23-1-19 took me exactly to the places where these were recorded. In some places, there are only layers of crusty snow on the slopes. These disintegrate and it is hardly possible to make progress with skins. If you change the expo and are less than 50m away as the crow flies, the slope is bombproof and you can tell the difference as soon as you step onto the snow surface. It will be exciting to see what the next week brings in terms of fresh snow, and terrain with little traffic should be enjoyed with caution.
Overall impression
There's no reason to complain. You can still find runs if you know your way around. There's still plenty to ride tomorrow. So let's get going.
