Snow condition

It snowed 3 cm at the beginning of the Paznaun valley and 5 cm at the top. So much less than announced and hoped for.

Snow quality

The fresh snow has fallen loosely without wind and lies on an icy crust at higher altitudes. There is no foundation towards the valley.

Risks

There was little fresh snow and no wind, so it was relatively safe off-piste today. Not enough even for sluffing. The old ice crust looks well frozen through and stable, but the onset of the wind at midday has already shifted it and if there's some more snow next night, the avalanche situation will be completely different again tomorrow.

Overall impression

The snow unfortunately stuck further north yesterday. It was a nice morning with sunshine and visually at least fresh snow. It started to move in at around 11am. The wind picked up and quickly affected the fresh snow. Let's hope that there will be more snow next night and that the wind won't cause too much damage.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
