Snow report Central Switzerland, 02/01/2014
We finally got the big dump that we have been waiting for in Engelberg! Föhn had taken all the previous good snow and now we got the well needed reset. Good skiing for days to come..

Snow condition
Last night we got around 25-30cm down in the valley and even more up higher. Base was good on most aspects before this new snow. Some wind crust on more exposed areas and lower elevation southern aspects didn't have much snow cover. Other than that the conditions are great! Snowing continued today and already filled up early morning tracks before afternoon.
Snow quality
New snow was light fluffy powder in the top of Brunni today and there was around 40cm of it in some spots. We could feel the grass and rocks in southern aspects as there is not much base and the new snow is so light. Today was almost total white out so skiing was challenging with that much snow. It will probably be better tomorrow on those thin spots when it settles a little bit and carries skiers better. Also better visibility would enable more speed and therefore flotation.
Risks
We didn't ski anything steep today and probably good idea to wait for the new snow to settle a while before doing so. Snow came with almost zero wind so that will ease the things out. UPDATE 3.2.2014 : Today we went to check out some higher terrain and found very hard slide surface approx. in 30cm depth. We did some testing and ski cut to slope we were planning to ski and got a loose snow avalanche running down. Some signs of a wind slab as well behind the lee side ridges. Be careful!
Overall impression
Few days of skiing from the lifts and then get your skins out and go find it. Forecast shows little bit of fill ups towards the end of the week.
