Snow condition
On the ascent through the wall, there was a lively alternation between waist-deep powder snow, load-bearing hardpack and, over longer stretches, completely blown-out rock. East slope: approx. 30cm of powder on a solid cover. Individual, still protruding stones could be easily recognized, especially in the steeper part of the wall.
Snow quality
Descent: The upper 500m of the eastern slope was divine, untracked powder. At lower altitudes and sunlit areas, it was mainly slush.
Risks
Certainly not without its challenges in some places on the ascent. Long distances and good local knowledge were an advantage here. The summit slope was much better than expected, at higher altitudes (2500m and above) the sun didn't seem to have affected the snow too much. However, the further we went towards the valley, the softer it became.
Overall impression
A virgin eastern slope, powder and bluebird - definitely one of the better days this year. However, as the warm temperatures continue, I could imagine that it will slowly become damp further up. As has been the case all season, slopes should always be assessed individually.
