Snow report Alpenostrand, 02/26/2016
Skitour auf die Hohe Veitsch via Bärental brachte heute Wind, sonniges Wetter und (fast) alle üblichen Schneearten (bei allgemein wenig Schnee).

Overall impression
Snow condition
Still not enough snow. Unfortunately, the snow cover can never really increase this winter due to constant warm air intrusions with rain far up the mountain. According to the LWD measuring station, around 60cm of snow on the Niederalpl. Of course, this varies greatly in the terrain (starting at 0cm).
Snow quality
As I mentioned, there was practically everything today: Wearing hard snow (frozen cover from last Sunday's rain). Wind-packed dry snow (from the fresh snow the day before yesterday). Accumulations of drifting snow (from the fresh snow the day before yesterday). Firn (on south-facing slopes at the top), firn in transition to slush (on sunny slopes further down) and even a few patches of almost fluffy powder snow in the shady forest (from the fresh snow the day before yesterday). However, the fresh snow was only present in very homeopathic quantities (up to a maximum of 4-5cm).
Risks
Not critical. There were quite a few accumulations of drift snow due to the strong wind, but the fresh snow was too small for them to reach critical proportions. However, the connection with the frozen old snow cover is still pretty poor.
Overall impression
Not that bad anyway, there were some fun swings from time to time. Nevertheless, it remains at 1 star. The overall situation is just so far removed from the usual!
