Snow condition
So, now it's time to go down to 2 stars, especially on the south side it's really bad all the way up and even on exposed ridges there's quite a bit of snow sticking out, but on the shaded side from the middle layers it's still quite good, about 1m at 1200m, and then certainly 2m at 1500.
Snow quality
Crusty top with hard avalanche balls inside. Below that, a mix of slush, soft firn and braking snow (in the sun). It was best on the N side in the shade between 1300m and 1000m: fast and soft, but not deep. Very close to 3*.
Risks
It didn't close at night, so the snow cover was deep and swampy in the sun. Mostly very compact on the shaded side. Overall, lots of smaller slides and loose snow avalanches, but nothing really fresh. I would avoid the south side anyway (due to the lack of snow).
Overall impression
Nice lunchtime walk, but unbearably hot in the sun and a brutal foehn storm at the summit.
It's gradually getting less now, even if it's still very good in the high cirques, high plateaus and sheltered gullies.
The lowest mini-pillow turns with land-friendly, soft snow were nice, no one else was out and you can still do a few things without carrying anything...
