The further east you go this winter, the less it gets. By Tuesday there was a good 40cm of fresh snow, which improved the generally poor snow conditions a little and covered the quite open crevasses with sugar. Skiing is possible up to 1800m on the north side - on the south side, a lot of the snow is quite snowed out up to >2300

We've had everything from fine powder to the nastiest broken snow. On the north side, however, you can still find set powder - everything else depends on the position of the sun - timing is key.

Risks

We wanted to climb Piz Palü on Wednesday and decided against it due to the avalanche situation (lots of wind in the summit area + fresh snow + crevasses). From Palü there were some interesting descents to observe (see pictures). In many (north-facing) steep slopes, numerous descents could be observed, which went off on their own and which brought out the Sahara layer. It was definitely too tricky for steeper slopes, even though there is quite a bit of skiing.

The Engadin is always worth a trip - classic PG final meeting tour in good snow conditions - and impressive avalanche descents.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
