Snow report Montafon, 04/08/2016
Ein Gruss vom Winter im April! Eine entspannte Lawinenlage, eine dünne nasse Neuschneeauflage und einstellige Minusgrade mit kurzen Sichtfenstern begleiteten uns heute beim Variantenfahren.

Snow condition
It's amazing what can melt away in a week. Without artificial snowmaking, descents would only be possible up to around 1,800 meters. With it, it goes down much further. In the variant area on the shaded side, you can still ski well up to approx. 1,800 m, but the terrain also determines the line here. Luckily, Easter was very early this year!
Snow quality
On a soft and compact base, there was a 3-5 cm thick layer of wet snow (up to over 2,400 m) that was perfect for relaxed cruising. The mixture only became sticky below approx. 1300 m. Perfectly ok for the time of year.
Risks
Very relaxed. Due to the low temperatures, everything has solidified well. The layer of fresh snow is bound, but too small for large avalanches up to 40°. The risk of falling was certainly greater today. A lot of snow can accumulate on longer slopes over 40°.
Overall impression
Unfortunately, the viewing windows were too short to ride several longer descents in the terrain. All in all, a good end to the lift-assisted off-piste skiing. Tours go on a little longer in the Montafon.
