In Maryrhofen there is only fresh snow below 1500m. Even the artificial snow valley runs are partially closed. Shady slopes also have a lot more base. We only skied the 150-meter Tux Face, where you had to watch out for sharks on the ridges. As a result, you couldn't get that Alaskan spine feeling and skied with the handbrake on. In the Wanglspitz Face there was around 20cm of fresh snow on an ice crust, which unfortunately spoiled the fun somewhat, but it was still good to ski. In Hintertux, however, the snow situation looks completely different again, as there is enough snow within the tree line to ski in the sparse forest. On the glacier, however, the freeride slopes are very rocky. The 30cm of fresh snow hides the stones perfectly. The face under Glacier Bus 3 is also much rockier than it was a few years ago due to the glacier having receded considerably. Stone skis are still recommended. The descent into Schmirntal, on the other hand, has plenty of snow as far as Schmirn. We skied from the Kasererscharte.

The quality was top notch on the Wanglspitze and it got heavier from around 10.30 onwards. In Hintertux, all the expos were actually super powdery.

Risks

Relatively little fresh snow. Only on the hard crust does the fresh snow slide off very easily on steep slopes. However, only loose snow slides form here and no snow slabs. Therefore relatively relaxed overall.

Unfortunately, the Wanglspitze was a washout when we got there at 9.30am and there were already around 100 lines in the face. In addition, there was an enormous rush, so that we soon had to wait for 3 gondolas. So we quickly moved on to Hintertux, where there was also quite a rush. With a little eye for line choice, we were able to get a few good lines here. However, the highlight was the descent from the Kasererscharte to Schmirn. 1500 meters of depth with 0 meters of ascent. However, you should check the bus timetable beforehand, as it only runs back twice a day. All in all, a very cool ski safari by public transport. This would not have been possible by car.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
