Snow report Montafon, 02/04/2021
Oben besser als erwartet - Aber Regenkruste auch höher als gedacht

Snow condition
In the Montafon, some of the snow in the valley has melted away due to the rain and heat, and the green meadows are slowly coming out here and there in the valley. But in Gargellen and at the tour starting points (e.g. towards Lindauer Hütte) there is still more than enough. A lot of snow further up.
Snow quality
In Gargellen from approx. 1,900 - 2,000 m rain/melt crust in all exposures, above this altitude there was still a surprising amount of good snow: perfect powder where protected from the wind. However, in more exposed places (ridges, ridges), the snow surface was strongly influenced by the wind. Below approx. 2,000/1,900 yesterday there was still a halfway viable snow cover. Not yet warm enough for firn conditions today, but this could become good in the next few days.
Risks
The avalanche situation continues to be tense due to the extensive transportation of snow in all exposures above approx. 2,000 m. This is also shown by the artificially triggered snow slabs in the Gargellen ski area today in areas close to the crest and behind exposed areas.
Overall impression
Better than expected above 2,000 meters with settled powder. Unfortunately, only a few of these unclouded downhill meters, because further down the rain/melt crust soon awaits and challenges the skiing technique.
