Snow condition
Between three and four stars. There is a reasonable amount of snow, even on the sunny side you can walk away from the car without carrying anything, although there are likely to be a few carrying passages this week. The further towards the main ridge, the less.
Snow quality
Light and shade. On Sunday we had very nice firn on the south side. On Saturday it was still a bit crusty at the top of Punta Helbronner. There was still powder on the north side, but we were hardly out there.
Risks
The somewhat irregular appearing LLB issued a 3. In my estimation, it was closer to a 2. At high altitudes it was still a bit windy on Smstag, so there were probably a few snow packs. Overall, spring-like conditions with diurnal warming and a corresponding increase in avalanche danger.
Overall impression
Good snow, great weather, unfortunately the worm was in it and what we wanted to do didn't really work out on either day. Too bad, but the mountains don't run away...
