Snow condition

The snow conditions are still ok, but not gigantic either. At lower altitudes, a lot of snow, or all of it, has already thawed, which is of course less of a problem at the rather high Planneralm, but you don't really need to go to tour starts below 1000 m in the Niedere Tauern anymore. the higher you get, the more the snow increases at first, with most of it generally lying around the tree line. Above that, the picture is divided into two parts. Individual, heavily snow-covered slopes have a very thick blanket of snow and are sometimes crowned by huge cornices. However, most of the slopes don't really have much snow, as some of them have been constantly blown away or have already gone down as snow slabs in January, or as wet snow avalanches in the course of February or March, which means that the touring options are noticeably limited, which is why 2 stars would be justifiable given the snow conditions.

The firn slope I was actually aiming for had practically slipped away completely (probably during the last rain event), and I didn't dare go next to it due to the overgrowth. But the north side was actually quite ok, about 10cm of fresh snow on a crust, which you rarely felt when skiing fast. Actually, I would rather go on firn, but here it definitely pays to know the current conditions.

Risks

I would consider it relaxed. The soft snow is well set, otherwise just pay attention to the daytime, spring conditions prevail.

Well, it was another day with a bit of a schedule, but it was still okay.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
