Variations of snow cover

The snow situation was difficult because the wind was very strong before the last snowfall and many of the summits, ridges and crests were completely blown off. Now there is 20cm of fluffy powder on top, often covering the rocks. As a result, just above about 2200m there are massive rock contacts, people are looking for skis everywhere, lots of coreshots etc. Further down, it's much better, between 2200 and about 1600m you can ski wonderfully on the shaded side. On the sunny side up to about 1800m in open terrain ok.

Powder snow

The fifth star is very close, as only the top 20cm were really super fluffy. Below that, the snow was still soft but much more compact. Great to ride, but the sinking depth was manageable.

Risks

Cracking (When entering the snow cover)
Diurnal warming

Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)

No wind in the morning, then slowly getting stronger in the afternoon. Avalanche risk to be considered, we saw a few cracks in the steep terrain (which we avoided) but no real snow slabs.

Overall impression

Worse

It was pretty good, somewhat spoiled by the frequent contact with rocks further up and the very busy off-piste terrain.
