Variations of snow cover

Lots of snow, especially in the forest. Above the forest and partly also on open meadows below the tree line a lot of snow has blown off and is now melting due to the sun. Hence only three stars. Especially on the high plateaus typical of the region, it has blown off a lot (even over large areas).

Snow quality

3 von 5 Sterne
Hard, pressed snow
Breakable crust
Firn
Jelly snow
Wind drifted snow

In some shady, wind-protected areas (i.e. in the forest from around 1100m) you can still find loose and dry snow. In open areas, the snow conditions are very changeable due to the storms of the past precipitation period. Sunny locations (south, south-east, south-west) sometimes have spring conditions (melted snow cover of varying thickness, firn and even slush).

Wind drifted snow

Intensity: strong

Risks

Diurnal warming

Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)

The snow cover has already settled considerably. In the shade, however, the drift snow is still very brittle. On sun-exposed slopes, it is already transitioning to spring conditions (melted snow cover). In the distance (steep southern flank of the Proles), the outcrop of a sliding snow avalanche could be seen.

Worse

Three stars thanks to the beautiful weather (no wind, sun). The snow conditions (variable quality) would only have been good enough for two stars. But if you look hard enough, you can still find good conditions for skiing. The forecast weather trend suggests that conditions are likely to deteriorate (with the possible exception of tomorrow, if it does snow heavily again tomorrow (but again accompanied by a storm!).

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
