Snow condition
Around 20 cm fell overnight - with heavy snowfall in places and no wind at first. From the morning onwards, there was a storm and more snowfall, including some intense sleet showers. My trail from the morning was partially no longer visible shortly after midday (I walked the upper section twice). The forest is deeply snowed in. In the shady and wind-protected areas (where the old snow was still dry and loose) there was no snow. These parts were fantastic to ski, especially as only the existing trees and your own skiing ability limited your speed due to the amount of snow. Stream ditches and the like are also easy to ski. Outside the forest (i.e. also on meadows below the tree line) the 4 stars do not apply or only apply to a limited extent. There was a lot of blowing snow here and the snow quality was correspondingly poor.
Snow quality
Wherever the storm doesn't reach (i.e. actually only in well-protected forest slopes, forest ditches, etc.), the snow quality is excellent. Fluffy and dry. The amount of fresh snow has led to a refresh.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: strong
Risks
Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)
Blowing snow and cornice formation due to extensive snow drifts. The storm was very gusty. In the strong gusts (which also occurred in the valley area) there was then partial white out due to snowfall plus snow sweeping.
Overall impression
One of those days when you are also happy with the mountains on the edge of the Alps. The forest slopes and trenches that are common here provided the necessary protection from storms and drifting snow and once again provided an impressive "powder feeling" today. In the forest clearings, dead wood and even the very large, compact rootstocks of trees that have been cut down are now snowed in, making it skier-friendly.
