Exposition
Snow condition
Very good snow conditions with good coverage and cushioning of all possible obstacles in the forest.
Snow quality
In shady and wind-protected areas above approx. 1400m, the fluffy fresh snow from Friday is still settling, but quite soft old snow from Monday/Tuesday. The further down, the more "unattractive" this old snow becomes. In the forest on the shaded side, however, there is still dry old snow down to the valley. Overall very good skiing, even in the very steep forest and some narrow forest (tracks).
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: strong
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
Despite the favorable avalanche warning level (2), the drifts including massive cornice formations, especially in steep northeast cirques, are an indication of a rather defensive route choice. We decided against such an untracked northeast cirque today (and we were not the only ones to make this decision). In the steep and very sunny southern sector, there were several sliding snow avalanches and "fish mouths".
Overall impression
Another impressive day with pure sunshine and still beautiful snow. By switching to less popular destinations, it is also possible to escape the ski touring hype at the weekend or on Sundays and find untracked terrain.
